On a massive downswing...

Poker sucks right now.

I don't know where to begin... but let's say I'm just not winning lately. A mixture of bad beats, grrr-on-tilt-play and yeah... some crappy hands that I just shudda/cudda/wuddn'ta fold. I didn't have the heart to keep posting about losing here... it may work well for Doke, but not moi!

Ah, let me backtrack a little: I did win 'something' a ticket to the Ladies Poker Championship in the Crowne Plaza on Saturday 21st March. First time I ever won a satt. Disappointing numbers aside, its shaping up to be a good game with a few of the IDP ladies playing... I'm still trying to persuade the rest to come! They've never played outside the IDP circuit/home games before so this would be a great experience for them. Here's hoping one of us goes deeeeeep! It will be fun putting a face to all the Boardies/Facebook crowd too...

Stephen/Poker Ireland always puts on a good game, he's promised to increase the stacks/blinds so I'm just looking forward to having a good day of playing poker for just €10! Anything else that comes out of it will be a bonus... Bring it on!

Hey Jules, how are you. Haven't seen you about in a while. Bottomed out on a massive downswing myself but on the up, hopefully.

I've cashed a couple of times this week (small but better than naught) and I won a sat in the Fitz last Thur to this weekends Touch charity tourney.

Chin up & just play (well) through it......

Heeeeeeeey TM! It's been a while... just had a peek at your blog - great read! Guess we are both branching out into newer places instead of the regular haunts...

Well done on winning the satt and good luck in the Touch Tournament this Saturday... Would've played in the Satt myself if the ME wasn't on the same day as the Ladies Championship!

The downswing is horrendously long, just need one cash to break it! If I don't do it this weekend I think I'll take a break from Poker for a few weeks... and re-evaluate my game.

The way I look at downswings is if it's just variance then you just gotta play through it. If it's a leak in your game or if the downswing causes you to start making mistakes & playing bad then you need to take a step back & honestly re-evaluate and make corrections.

Good luck Jules...

P.S. Can I link your blog from mine?

good Luck in the Ladies Event this Saturday, relax into the game and don't be worried about being in a downswing... take each game as a different entity and you'll be fine. Im playing the Charity event, and Martin is playing the freeroll for the Irish Open Tickets, so we are doing a 2 pronged attack...

See you soon

Link away Tom, although it won't be as interesting a read as yours! ;-D

Susie: stop slowplaying the nuts and calling my all-ins with two over cards when I'm ahead on the flop and sucking out on the river!!!! LOL... chin up girl - you are nittier than me!

Thanks Smurph - I have no doubt that Martin will get his IO Ticket! Good luck in the Touch tournie - stay well clear of TM, he's more lethal than Doke!!! :-D

Just had a thought, I haven't won since I changed the template on this blog to hot lips.... hmmmmm! I wonder?! Only one way to find out!!!

Just seen your link to Ferdinands blog. Are you a DCU grad? I have a B.Sc Computer Applications degree from DCU and graduated many moons ago!

Great new template!.
Poker sucks when its not going well especially live poker because you have the long journey home rather than the short click online!.

Car dealer eh!? is that for someone to quiz you on only for you to deliver your cunning sales pitch to sell your car!?.

Anyway best of luck tomorrow Go go go go go go!

Trust Rounders to find the one mistake I make(!) Nothing gets pass you eh, Mister?! ;-D

Thanks for the good wishes! Exited with a whimper in 17th place... will put a write up soon! It was a good game, the standard was so-so for the most part but I enjoyed it! Went to Fitz afterwards and was very successful on the cash table and halfed my 'poker debt'... here's hoping the jinx has gone!!!!

Yes TM, I'm another DCU grad - BSc in Education & Training here, did it part-time over 3.5 years, only got my degree 3 years ago. Was supposed to go back and do my MSc but a new baby and all the attached responsibilities put paid to that... one day... one day... saw your brother last night in the Fitz, very nice cash in the charity tournament! WP!

Yeah he did very well recovering from a hand where he re-raised a guys EP raise and was called. Keith had KK, other guy AQ. Flop 10KJ. all the money goes in and other guy holds. Keith had him covered and was still in but had to rebuild his stack. Structure allowed this though and he recovered very well.

He cashed for €6k in a 3 way chop 3 weeks ago in the Fitz EOM so he's on a roll right now.

I had a % of his action so happy days...........
